Obligatory Introspective Post

In an attempt to avoid studying for a Geology exam I have tomorrow I decided to count the days between now and May 7th, the day I graduate from college.  There are only 90 days left in my college career.  I approach these ninety days with a cornucopia of emotions; lots of excitement and anticipation and a little bit of sadness and nostalgia. To celebrate the imminent arrival of graduation I feel it is my blog-o-sphere duty to write a lengthy introspective post about my feelings and emotions.

I feel like the crazy weather we've had the past couple of weeks have been a meteorologic representation of my mood as of late.  Today, it is a bright as crisp February morning where all of the people and furry woodland creatures are finally out and stirring after the wet icy weather of last week.  In the air there is a sense of relief from the dreary weather and an eagerness to take advantage of the offerings of a day filled with the excitement of sunshine and promise. Friday night I was snowing.  True, there was no accumulation, but snow flurries are snow none the less.  I walked around campus at one in the morning just watching the snow fall.  I walked around the heart of campus, the Bowl, just watching the wind blow the snow flakes around. I found myself standing on the stage in the Bowl, that I will soon walk across during graduation to get my diploma.  Then out of the darkness I heard a train's lonesome whistle from the rail yards near campus... cliche, I know, but that moment captured my Robert Frost-like nostalgia.

At the present moment I'm listening to my Film Scores station on Pandora which is a delightful mix of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Enya, and music from Band of Brothers, Batman, and Lord of the Rings.  If someone were ever to make a movie about my life I would like John Williams to compose the sweeping orchestral numbers and have the people who do the acoustic guitar interludes for Gilmore Girls for my life's movie soundtrack.  It might be a tad narcissistic to think about what my life's soundtrack would be, but since I'm in the contemplative nostalgia mode I choose to dwell on such musings.  If you were to create a soundtrack of your life, what songs and artists would you feature in it?

  1. Katie!!! The snow sounds amazing! It made me so sad that you are about to graduate but you have totally AMAZING plans for next year (and I better see you sporting that Duke shirt!) :)
