Music Fusion
If I had to summarize my musical preferences I would probably use the phrase "Classical Folkin' Broadway." I thank my parents (who were/are band nerds) for making us listen to public radio growing up. I believe my early and frequent exposure to the classical stylings of NPR gave me a deeply rooted appreciation for orchestral music. As a Mississippi native, I am obligated to love country, folk, and bluegrass music. Thus my iPod has plenty of Allison Krauss, James Taylor, Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, and the occasional sprinkling of Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney (yes, please judge me.) I also can't help but love me some musical show tunes. If you ever pull up beside my car as I'm driving around town you will probably see me trying my best to sing with one of the many musical soundtracks I have.
I take voice lessons at school from a fabulous baritone, James Martin, and I feel that he is one of the few people in the world who really understands my musical tastes. God bless this dear man for giving me the BEST line up of show tunes this semester (think Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, and my role model Dame Julie Andrews!) As I perused YouTube to get an idea of how these songs are to be performed, the below video popped up under my recommended section. I couldn't believe it. My favorite busty country diva, Dolly, and my third favorite Jew (after Jesus and Babs of course), Bette, are singing a duet of one of my favorite folk songs, Moses by Patty Griffin! After losing consciousness for a few seconds after squealing with joy I watched a video that gave me hope for the potential future couplings of my favorite musical artists. Watch and enjoy as Miss Dolly and the Divine Miss M do their thang.
