The Reason for The Season

Christmas time is here!  It's time to deck the halls with LED flashing lights, adorn the artificial Douglas Fir tree with creepy ornaments, feast on mint flavored everything, and rejoice in the glories of super deals at Wal-Mart and Best Buy.  Don't get me wrong, my favorite thing about Christmas is the birth of Jesus; but I cannot help but relish in the craziness of the holiday season.  It's not that I am one of those people who go go goes non stop shopping from the day after Thanksgiving to the last few minutes before the stores close on Christmas Eve, but I LOVE people watching during this time of year.  Some of my people watching trophies from this year have been, seeing Santa on a smoking break; a 5 year old answering the loaded question of "does this make my butt look fat,"; and the woman wearing an obnoxiously large "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" button while bitching at some poor sales clerk at a shoe store.  It frustrates me to no end when people who tout the banner of Christianity and Christian Holiness act in ways that I'm sure make Jesus dope slap and angel.  Below is a clip from the Colbert Report, even though it is a satire piece, I think it offers some incredible insight into who Jesus was, what the reason of Christmas is, and how Christians should approach politics.  Enjoy!
